I’m excited to bring you the next post in The Holiday Series! I’ve been collaborating with a few other bloggers since Thanksgiving for special looks, and today we’re featuring winter wedding outfits. You can read more about these wonderful ladies and their looks at the bottom of the post.
Would you believe me if I told you that I got this H&M printed dress secondhand for $10?
What if I told you this wool coat was only $20?
Part of being a budget shopper means thrifting occasionally, even when the event in mind is a fancier one like a winter wedding. So today I’m going to share with you a few places that I look for secondhand items.
The first place I’ll suggest, and where I happened to get this dress, is Facebook.
Buy, Sell, Trade or Take My Stuff groups are growing in popularity, and you probably have one for your local area. Just join the group and check out the clothes posts! You might even decide to make a few bucks by selling some of your old stuff.
Besides this dress, I’ve also gotten a Loft cardigan for $5 from a Facebook group.
Another great place to check out is Amazon Warehouse.
It’s the part of Amazon where they sell open box and gently used merchandise. I have bought sooo many pairs of shoes here for such a great price: Frye boots under $150, lots of Nine West pumps under $30, and even my dog-printed rain boots for $30.
You can read the condition of the item before buying so you know how used it is, but I’ve had pretty good luck with my purchases. Every Amazon Warehouse item I ordered had Prime shipping, so I was able to return it if I wasn’t happy.
The last place I’ll recommend for secondhand items is thredUP.
That’s where I got my $20 coat last year. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s an online store for name brand, used items. Browsing their stuff so much nicer than digging through piles of junk at brick and mortar thrift stores!
If you’re after something from one of your favorite stores from last season, thredUP is the place to search for it. Or if you’re wanting to splurge on a classic designer piece without paying retail.
Obviously since my dress is thrifted I can’t link the exact one, but I thought I would round up some pretty black and white dresses that can do double (or triple) duty for you this season for a winter wedding, fancy Christmas party, or going out on NYE.
One last note on my look: I hate tights. They bunch, they sag, they run. I’ll wear them occasionally, but I when I have the choice I say no to uncomfortable clothes! Especially on the night of a fancy occasion.
Shelbee: For my winter wedding outfit, I went for more of a dressy casual look with layered little black dresses: a button front shirt dress over a body con dress. I kept my accessories simple with a gold link floral necklace and a black clutch. Then I let my bright pink heeled loafers be the statement. My feeling is you can never go wrong with a little black dress and some fabulous shoes for just about any occasion!
