Picking a hotel is one of the biggest stressors when it comes to making travel plans. And as a Type A person, I plan out ALL of my travel in advance. Winging it is just not my style. There’s so much to consider and compare: is the hotel close to downtown? Does it have free wifi and parking? Is breakfast offered? Do they have family rooms? The list goes on and on.
If you’re travelling to Munich and are worried about all of the above, check out Hotel Laimer Hof. Not only does it check off all of those boxes, but I am not kidding when I say it is the friendliest hotel I have ever been to. Hotel Laimer Hof is run by Sebastian Rösch and his family, and they give personal attention to every guest.
Sebastian took the time to explain to us all the restaurants in the area, how to get to the closest sights, what the neighborhood is like, and everything the hotel offered for us. You can tell that he is passionate about their business, and treats guests like family instead of customers. Hotel Laimer Hof isn’t an impersonal hotel; it’s a friendly home away from home. And they have some of the best rates in all of Munich.
I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Laimer Hof last month, and in this post I’ll let you know all about the amenities they offer, what our room was like, and why the location was so great.
The Amenities
Let me hit some of the highlights right off the bat:
- Free parking
- Free wifi
- Dog friendly (8€ per night)
- Free bikes available
- Free city maps available
- Free umbrellas available for rainy days
- Breakfast 10€ per person, kids 6 and under free (including fresh bread from a local bakery!)
For me the best part is the free parking and reasonable dog fee. Sometimes those costs alone can add up to an extra night’s stay at other hotels!
I love that they offer everything that a chain hotel does and more, but without extra costs.

The Room
Look at how at home Rascal is in our room! I love that i was able to bring him with me on this trip to Munich.
We stayed in one of the apartment style rooms, which can see is quite spacious. It can sleep up to 6 people and has a full kitchen, dining and living area, and 3 separate bedrooms. It doesn’t feel so much like a hotel as it does a furnished apartment.
This room is perfect for traveling families and extended visits. I can see this apartment working beautifully due to the multiple sleeping areas, the extra space in the living and dining room for relaxing, and the ability to store food and cook meals in the kitchen.
The bathroom also has an enclosed toilet and separate shower and bath, which makes things so much easier when you have several people getting ready at the same time.
If you and your in-laws are traveling to Munich together, or maybe you’re taking some kids and their friends to the city, a room like this would be perfect.
The Location

Hotel Laimer Hof is located outside downtown Munich in a quiet, pretty neighborhood. It’s definitely a safe area for families, and I had no worries walking Rascal late at night.
You can take the tram or train into the city center if you like, which are just a 5 and 10 minute walk from the hotel, respectively. But you don’t have to go downtown to see some major attractions.
Schloss Nymphenburg, a 17th century palace of Bavarian kings, boasts equally impressive interiors and grounds for exploring. It’s so close to Hotel Laimer Hof that you can see one of the rooftops from the hotel door!
Königlicher Hirschgarten is the largest biergarten in Munich and a wonderful place to grab traditional Bavarian fare. Do you see that yummy käsespätzle and risotto? It’s a must eat kinda place and a short walk from the hotel.
Hotel Laimer Hof‘s location strikes a perfect balance of being close to the attractions while still being affordable and safe. I would have loved to use some of the hotel’s bikes and explored the neighborhood more if we had a longer stay.
If you can’t tell already, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Laimer Hof. The amenities, room, and location were wonderful, and it is the perfect place for families to stay while visiting Munich. What really stuck with me after leaving the hotel was how welcoming Sebastian was and how at home I felt staying there. To me, Hotel Laimer Hof is Munich’s friendliest hotel.
I also have to say that I am thrilled my first hotel review is of a family owned business. They’re becoming harder and harder to find nowadays, and truly is a testament to their outstanding service.
