I did my fair share to help the economy over Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The deals were just too good! As a shopaholic on a budget I would have been crazy not to partake in some of the sales.
Over the weekend I made online purchases from the following stores:
Since I live overseas it took me awhile to receive all my orders, but I finally got them in and did a big try on session last weekend.
In this post I’ll go over all the hits and misses from each retailer as well as size info to help if you’re interested in ordering yourself.
Hanes Ugly Christmas Sweatshirt (Size: M)
I have never owned an ugly Christmas sweater and now I am happy to say I finally have one that isn’t even that ugly! If you can’t read the graphic, it says, ‘You Crack Me Up.’
I originally was going to get the one that says ‘All I Want for Christmas is Wine’ but I figured one that doesn’t mention alcohol would be more appropriate for holiday office parties.
I ordered a medium because some reviewers said it could be on the shorter side. I consider myself to have an average to longer torso, and I think the small would have been fine.
Levi’s 711 Skinny Jeans in ‘Hidden Track’ Wash (Size: 27 4R)
These are the jeans from yesterday’s post with my casual Christmas look. I was on the search for a traditional, less stretchy, lighter blue wash pair of denim and these are SO perfect! They have a raw hem and sturdy feel.
I’m usually around a 4-6 in pants, and the 4 fits amazingly well in these Levi’s. I’m 5’6” and these hit my ankle perfectly, and are also a nice tightness from my knees to ankles (one of my pet peeves is skinny jeans that are too loose in this area).
I have always found Levi’s to be around the $75-100 mark at outlet malls, but the Amazon prices are much better than that.
Pleated Off-the-Shoulder Maxi Dress (Size: 4)
I had such high hopes for this dress and it was such a disaster! I kind of had a feeling it was either going to be a huge hit or a huge miss…
I love the feel of it and the style, but that can’t save an awful fit like this. And I could not justify additional tailoring considering the price of the dress to begin with.
If you want to give this one a shot, size down for sure. And FYI, the straps are not adjustable. You can’t really tie it tighter at the top. So fit is critical! This is really one of those items that’s probably better tried on in store.
Love the quality on this super versatile sweater. As the name implies, it’s really soft, and I can wear this with jeans or work pants. In fact, fellow blogger Adriele of Style Assisted featured this top in a work look recently and looked amazing!
The ruffle detailing on the sleeves is a nice feminine touch, and Banana Republic actually has this Italian superloft in a lot of other cute sweaters. There are bows, bell sleeves, graphic sweaters, and cardigans that all look nice.
I’ll keep an eye out for some of the other Italian superloft styles to go on sale, since regular price is a little more than I’m willing to spend. The quality is there, I’m just a sale shopper at heart and can’t stand spending so much on a sweater!
Open Collar Bishop Sleeve Shirt (Size: S)
I thought this top was going to be a fun take on a traditional button down, but it’s a little too fashion forward for me, as well as too large.
Maybe it doesn’t look so eccentric in the photo, but as I was walking around in it I could see the sleeves out of the corner of my eyes and thought they looked like a pilgrim outfit or something!
Sizing down might have made this look better. Another item that’s best tried on in store since it’s a unique style.
Machine Washable Merino Shell (Size: S)
You can rest assured that I won’t be wearing this sweater shell on it’s own like this! I will be wearing it with a button down underneath or with a blazer on top.
When it comes to work pieces, you have me at ‘machine washable.’ I hate air drying and ironing, so I think this is going to be an easy care piece that will be fun to layer for an office. It’s lightweight so it won’t add bulk, either.
It comes in a few colors and runs TTS.
Mix-Print Paisley Top (Size: S)
I loved this top online and love it even more in person. This is a great all season blouse that can be worn with jeans and boots or shorts and sandals.
The fabric has a nice weight to it and great movement, and I think it won’t require ironing which is a huge plus. The green isn’t available anymore but there are 3 other colorways that are really pretty.
If you’re in between sizes go down. The bottom is very flowy (in a good way).
Funnel Neck Tie Belt Dress (Size: S)
I was wanting some sweater dresses that would look cute with my OTK boots, but this one isn’t quite worth keeping.
The material feels nice, but I think the funnel neck is a little too tight. Also, I have to bunch the dress in the back when I tie it so that it lays smoothly. I think if I really wore it out I would be fidgeting with it all day.
Molly Bell Sleeve V-Neck Sweater (Size: S)
Another item I wore in yesterday’s post! Here’s what it looks like with the half tuck.
Like I said yesterday, I’m really impressed with the lovely fit and quality of the sweater. Like the Banana Republic sweaters, I wouldn’t pay full price but on sale these are a great buy.
It comes in a bunch of colors and is a mid to lightweight that you can get a lot of wear out of. Also, the bell sleeves aren’t too long that they get in the way 😉
Faux-Wrap Front Sweatshirt (Size: S)
Thought this was going to look great. How hard is it to make a relaxed, black top flattering? But no. The faux-wrap just creates bulk and the sleeves are too short. Overall it runs a tad short.
P.S. I also ordered this Shoulder Tie One-Piece Swimsuit from J. Crew on final clearance. I like it overall, but wish it had some built in support! I should have read the description better before buying, but I was so excited to find a J. Crew suit at such a great price that I didn’t look. Also comes in a striped version.
Relaxed Shirred Blouse (Size: S)
I really don’t think that most people would guess that this top is from Old Navy. It looks much nicer with the shiny fabric, balloon sleeves, and shirred detail.
And again, it’s a work to weekend kind of top. Tuck it into a pencil skirt or leave it flowy with some colored denim. It could be a cute date night top with some distressed boyfriend jeans and strappy heels
The options are endless!
Mid-Rise Rockstar Built-In Sculpt Jeans in ‘Rinse’ Wash (Size: 6 Regular)
I thought that these jeans would never let me down. I have this exact pair in a few other washes and a size smaller, but for some reason this pair is not doing it for me. They’re meh.
I guess my advice would be to go with your regular size so the sculpt can really do it’s work. If you get a size too big the jeans don’t really hold it all together.
Relaxed Boho Top (Size: S)
If you can excuse the wrinkles, I really like this top. My work uniform has been jeans and relaxed tops lately, so this cream blouse with back detail fits in perfectly.
I have a feeling it’s going to shrink in the wash a bit, but it’s loose enough that it should still fit nicely.
Available in 3 colors and only $10 right now!
Velvet Ruffle Trim Cami (Size: S)
I have ordered an incredible amount of velvet recently. Three tops and a blazer from Amazon to be precise. And they all were just off. And weird. And were returned.
This velvet cami, though, is great. The relaxed fit is really flattering, and it’s something that can be transitioned out of the holiday season easily. It could be worn under a bomber jacket (something I need!), or it might be cool to layer over a button down.
It’s also very affordable as far as velvet is concerned, but really everything from Old Navy is decently priced.
Semi-Fitted Rib Knit Henley (Size: M)
Henleys are the perfect tops to wear under vests. Cargo vests, puffer vests, fur vests, you name it.
This top comes in 5 colors and is $12 right now. I recommend sizing up in anything from Old Navy that is described as ‘fitted’ or ‘semi-fitted’ if you don’t like tight tops. The medium worked perfectly for me.
V-Neck CashmereTunic Sweater (Size: M)
Another familiar piece! I styled this cashmere sweater in brown for work, and with the price so good I couldn’t resist ordering it in another color. Obviously it works just as well with jeans as it does with slacks.
With discount codes it’s currently under $34, which is pretty amazing for cashmere. It’s been selling out in certain colors and sizes so order soon if you’re interested. My order for it in white was cancelled 🙁
I was able to publish 4 posts within 5 days this week (yay!), and now I’ll be taking a little break to enjoy Christmas with family and relax.
I hope you enjoy the holiday ♥
