It’s crazy to me to think that we’re over half way through 2018, and with so many fall sales going on people are stocking up on upcoming cold weather gear! Didn’t summer just get here? Aren’t we still loving the sun and shorts and dresses and flip flops?
Wherever you’re at in life, loving summer or anxiously awaiting fall, it’s still pretty hot and humid in Richmond. Which means no boot or scarves or jacket purchases anytime soon for me. In fact, since I was recently traveling for 3 weeks in Colombia, I don’t feel like I’ve fully embraced summer trends! But now that I’m back, I’m here to talk about 4 summer trends (2 of which I’m showcasing here) and how you can inexpensively update your wardrobe with them.
1. Straw Bags
My little straw purse was one of my Colombia souvenirs, and I really do think its the CUTEST. My husband affectionately refers to it as my ‘bird purse’ because a straw bag looks like something a bird would nest in, and I should have a pet bird I carry around in this one!
Guys seriously think the weirdest things about fashion, but whatever. Here are a few options, all under $50, some under $30 for adding a straw bag to your closet.
2. Statement Earrings
Now statement earrings are nothing new. They’ve been trendy for quite awhile now! But for summer they’re more colorful and I definitely see more fun shapes like fruit or animals in them. I recently have gone a little crazy for statement earrings, hoops in particular, and I think have around 10 pairs total? Hopefully this trend sticks around awhile longer because I seem to have really invested myself in it. Here’s a few great picks, all under $25, most under $15.
3. Hair Scarves
The other summer trend I’m wearing in this post! And let me be honest about where I think you should very, very affordably find these babies: the thrift store. I got the one I’m wearing for $1.04 including tax. And if you want to know how to tie one up like I’m wearing in the post, head over to Instagram for a tutorial that I’ll save in my highlight reel later today. It’s super easy.
If you’re not a thrift store person, or want an option that’s already tied up and ready for your hair, here are some scarf options (all under $25, most under $15).
P.S. Scarves also look nice tied to the handle of your purse (or straw bag for double the trendiness!).
4. Heart Sunglasses
This is one trend that I’m not so sure I’m going to jump on the bandwagon with! It’s not that I don’t think that they’re completely cute, it’s just that they’re not my style. And I really don’t think I have the right face shape for these. But so many fashion bloggers have been wearing these and killing it. If you’re a trendy person I say give it a try! All options below are under $20.
Personally, I’ll be wearing 3/4 of these trends for the rest of the summer.
I’m headed out to Arizona tomorrow to celebrate my grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary! I’m so excited to see family I haven’t seen for over 3 years since being in Germany. Hopefully I can stay cool in that desert heat!
